Diamond Cluster Rings – A New Twist On An Old Favorite

The diamond cocktail rings of our mothers and grandmothers are being updated into more modern designs and they’re now being called diamond cluster rings. These diamond rings, made up of multiple stones, aren’t just for cocktail parties anymore. In fact, many women are wearing diamond cluster rings as a right hand ring these days.

It’s generally a lot less expensive to buy a diamond cluster ring that it is to buy a solitaire of equal weight. For one thing, it’s a lot harder to find a large good quality diamond than it is to find the smaller ones. Since the larger solitaire rings are always a popular item, the also can demand a much higher price because of their rarity.

While a single large, perfect solitaire diamond is a dream for some women, others prefer the kind of flash and dazzle that you can only get with a diamond cluster ring. With a solitaire diamond, you may have 80 to 90 facets, all reflecting the light into different directions. But multiply those 80 facets by 7 or 8 stones and you have quite a lot of excitement happening with the light from your ring now.

Diamond cluster rings have been around for hundreds of years, and some of the styles look rather dated. For women who have a traditional style and classic taste, this is fine. But for those thoroughly modern women with a trendier taste in fashion, there are some designers who are creating cluster rings in more modern variations.

One of the current trends is the halo ring. A larger stone is set in the center of the ring and then surrounded with a ring or frame of small diamonds to set it off. This creates a nice, flashy, substantial ring, with a modern look and feel. And the frame of diamonds also makes the center stone appear even larger and more brilliant.

One of the newer settings for diamond cluster rings uses several smaller diamonds grouped together to give the appearance of a solitaire. Since each diamond included in these diamond cluster rings is fully faceted, the brilliance of these rings is breathtaking.
