Personalizing Your Engagement Diamond Ring

For many couples choosing a ring to represent their engagement, a diamond ring is the only ring they consider, without even giving it a second thought. Diamonds have been the traditional stones for engagement rings for over half a century now and it just doesn’t occur to some people to choose anything else for their engagement, a diamond ring is it. But what if you want to make your engagement ring a little more symbolic?

More and more couples are choosing engagement diamond rings that represent their own personal style. For example, Celtic engagement rings are becoming quite popular. The intricate knot designs symbolize family and ethnic traditions. And antique rings or family heirloom rings are also steeped in history and family tradition. Designer engagement diamond rings are often created to contain delicate patterns that spell out words or dates, and uniquely designed settings are used to show a couple’s tastes for personal symbolism.

Some couples are even opting for birthstone rings instead of the traditional engagement diamond ring. These rings might have the birthstones of the bride and groom, or gems to represent significant dates of their relationship, such as the date the met or the date the first kissed.

Three stone rings are also very popular right now, whether used as engagement diamond rings or simply as a diamond ring as a loving gift. The three diamonds, the center stone being larger than the other two, represent for some couples, the past, the present and the future of their relationship. For other couples they have a more religious meaning, too, being symbolic of The Holy Trinity.

To add intimacy and uniqueness to your traditional engagement diamond ring, you could also choose to have something engraved inside the circle. While some cultures believe this is bad luck for the happy couple because they believe it weakens the metal, other cultures look on it as a way of bonding the couple in a never ending circle of love.
