Princess cut engagement rings are what you will come across very often if you were to search for the most popular and most loved type of rings being used to propose a marriage. To those who are wondering, these engagement rings are not just another type of jewelry that are made to compete with the already leading diamond ring. As their name already suggests, this kind of ring is a classification not of the stone used in it, but of the cut that the stone has.

The very first thing that separates princess cut engagement rings from other rings in the market is that they are shaped in a square form. Although they were not actually the very first diamond ring to be released in such look, they were the only ones that successfully did their line of duty. The Asscher, Barion, and Emerald cuts were released before these princess cut rings. But unlike these previous versions, the princess cut has been able to overcome the drawbacks that their square shape caused. The princess cut has been able to retain the intricacy and brilliance of diamonds, which is usually lost because of the square-shaping process.

It was in the 1970s that princess cut engagement rings first came into existence, after being created by Betzalel Ambar, Israel Itzkowitz, and Ygal Perlman. And since then, they started to pave their way into popularity, especially among women as they offer a “bigger” diamond effect. This is because if you compare a traditional circular diamond ring side-by-side with a princess cut diamond ring, you will notice how the latter has more impact dues to its wider and more geometric surface.

Just take note that buying a ring to propose a marriage must be as sincere and as well-thought out as the proposition itself. It is not enough that you have decided on the type of stone to be used for your “Will you marry me?” speech, you must also pay attention to the details. Remember, your goal for this is to make your surprise really as impressive and astounding as possible. This way, when you look back from the future, you and your wife will both see the day when you popped out that wonderful diamond ring. But of course, the choice remains for you to make, are you going for traditional round rings or princess cut engagement rings?
